Chris Stain

Born 1972 Baltimore MD. Self-taught. My work and its themes find a kinship with the American social-realist movement of the early 20th century. This movement was made popular with the help of the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. It was lead by artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Ben Shahn, and Romare Bearden. My subject matter is of common people and their daily struggles and joys.  I chose stenciling and screen printing  to help me illustrate their stories because of the immediacy that the mediums provide.
